Geir Terje Eigestad

Geir has around 25 years of experience from the energy industry and academia.

He holds a PhD in industrial mathematics from University of Bergen (UiB, 2003) and held early in his career a position as acting associate professor in applied mathematics at University of Bergen/Centre for Integrated Petroleum Research (2004-2007).

His research was mainly on mathematical/numerical models, computational science and on the early work on large scale CO2 injection/storage in Norway (later to become the storage site for the Northern Light project).

In his industrial career he has founded his own consultancy company for reservoir/subsurface modelling and has held positions on reservoir engineering in Statoil (Equinor), Centrica and Dea, before joining WintershallDea/Harbour Energy.

Geir has worked on the technical subsurface foundation for some 50-70 gas and oil fields in the North Sea, amongst them Snøhvit which is one of the fields in Norway (Barents Sea), where CO2 has been re-injected back in the reservoir(s) since 2007.

He is also Harbour Energy’s focal point for the PoroTwin project – the digital twin of the FluidFlower from UiB. He is also the chairman of the executive board at Centre for Sustainable Subsurface Resources (CSSR), which is one of three national petrocentres in Norway.
